Fifty years ago, Congress passed Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972. Many associate this as being the most significant step forward toward equity in athletics, but the passage of Title IX did much more than that.
Title IX requires that all educational institutions that receive federal funds or financial assistance prohibit sex discrimination in all educational programs and activities, including recruitment, student admissions, financial assistance, housing, access to academic offerings and athletics.
Pregnancy and Parenting
Title IX protects pregnant and parenting individuals and requires equal access and equal participation for pregnant and parenting in educational programs and activities.
See our resource guide for additional information and tools pertaining to Title IX and gender equity.
