Federal Civil Rights Laws

As a recipient of federal funding, NC State is required to comply with federal civil rights laws which prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability in any University program or activity.
- Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title VI– Prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national origin in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance.
- Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title VII– Prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex and national origin.
- Education Amendments of 1972, Title IX– Prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.
- Age Discrimination Act of 1975– Prohibit discrimination on the basis of age in programs or activities receiving Federal financial assistance.
- Rehabilitation Act of 1973– Prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in programs receiving federal financial assistance.
- The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Titles I and V– An Act to establish a clear and comprehensive prohibition of discrimination on the basis of disability.
- Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act of 2008– An Act to restore the intent and protections of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
- The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967– Prohibits arbitrary age discrimination in employment.
