2024 Faculty Salary Equity Study

To uphold a critical piece of NC State’s mission, it’s imperative that we continue to recruit, retain and support world-class faculty and researchers. In alignment with our values of continued excellence, inclusion and equity, NC State has conducted a regular faculty salary equity study since 2001. The purpose of the study is to review and evaluate salaries of tenured and tenure-track faculty and conduct an internal pay-equity analysis related to evaluating the effects, if any, of gender, race and ethnicity on internal pay differences

Scope

NC State University’s Human Resources division routinely reviews internal pay equity with each hire, and they strive to maintain alignment with known external market data through connection to resources such as the College and University Personnel Association-Human Resources (CUPA-HR).

To ensure equity and uncover any systemic disparities, the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost engages the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED) to lead the completion of the study. NC State is partnering with a third-party consultant with demonstrated expertise at higher education institutions to facilitate the study. Tenured and tenure-track faculty members with salary differences that are not explained by lawful criteria may receive an equity adjustment from the FY23 raises pool.

Timeline

  • Phase I – Data collection and review
