30th Anniversary Celebration

Honoring the Past, Celebrating the Present, Envisioning the Future

This year, the Women’s Center celebrated its 30th anniversary at NC State! At the heart of this rich and storied history is a group of tenacious students who sought to establish a space dedicated to advancing gender, equity, and social justice on campus. With the support of Student Affairs staff and the Provost, their dream became a reality in October 1991. That student-led vision has continued to shape the campus climate and culture at NC State to this day.

Over the course of the 2021-2022 academic year, we invited the campus community to help us honor the past, celebrate the present, and envision the future of the NC State Women’s Center through a variety of events and opportunities.

In celebration of Women’s HERstory Month and our 30th anniversary, the Women’s Center partnered with University Libraries to curate an archival exhibit to highlight women who have paved the way for others by breaking barriers, opening the doors of possibility, and inspiring students to make a change. The exhibit, “Our Stories Matter: Redefining HERstory and the Meaning of Empowerment through the Times,” features digital artifacts and audio interviews that highlight the stories of impactful women from the past, present, and future who have contributed to the advancement of the Women’s Center’s work. The exhibit will remain on display at the Innovation Studio in D.H. Hill Library until June 30th.

The Women’s Center kicked off its year-long celebration of our 30th anniversary with a birthday party on Stafford Commons. During this festive event, interactive stations encouraged participants to help create a life-size paint-by-numbers mural, screen print their very own limited-edition 30th Anniversary Women’s Center t-shirt, write affirmations to themselves and the Women’s Center, practice self-care through coloring and movement, and learn about programs and services offered by the Women’s Center and its affiliated organizations.
