NC State Hosts Largest Multicultural Graduation Ceremony to Date

Seventy-seven multicultural graduates crossed the stage in the Piedmont Ballroom of Talley Student Union on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, comprising the largest gathering to date at the third annual Multicultural Graduation Ceremony. The number included twenty-four master’s degrees and seven doctoral degrees from across NC State’s colleges.

The African American Cultural Center hosted the 25th anniversary of the Ebony Harlem Awards of Excellence on Sunday, April 29, 2018. Since its inauguration in 1993, the awards program has celebrated Black academic, cultural and social excellence at NC State.

Equal Opportunity Institute Creates New Cohort of Change Agents

Equal Opportunity Institute graduates paused to reflect on their achievements and enjoy their accomplishments at EOI Graduation on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 in Hunt LIbrary’s Duke Energy Hall. The year-long certificate program celebrated its nineteenth year of bringing free diversity and equity workshops to the campus community with over 80 first-year and returning participants receiving recognitions.

L.A. Theatre Works’ The Mountaintop Humanizes Martin Luther King, Jr.

On Tuesday, April 17, 2018, L.A. Theatre Works presented a flawless performance of Katori Hall’s The Mountaintop in NC State's Stewart Theatre. The Oliver-winning play, which first premiered in London in 2011 as Broadway production starring Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Bassett, stopped at NC State toward the end of a 4-month, 38-city tour to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of Martin Luther King Jr.

NC State’s GLBT Center wrapped up its second GLBT Advocate Program Lunch and Learn Series this month, presenting four topics during spring semester. The final lunch and learn, “Foregrounding Intersectionality in Your Work with Students,” was held on April 18, 2018.

SAAM Keynote Speaker Pierre Berastain Triumphs Over Hardships

For Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), the Women’s Center brought Pierre Berastain to campus for a workshop, “Unpacking Culture in the Context of Sexual Assault, Intimate Partner Violence and Stalking,” and keynote address, “The Demons in My Sleep: Sexual Assault, the DREAM Act and Uncertainty,” both held on April 17, 2018 in Talley Student Union. Berastain’s life reads like a classic American success story except for circumstances that make it more of an epic journey with some nearly crushing setbacks along the way.
