I was honored to help launch an Omani Student Association at our beloved university and to serve as its president during its first year. Tiara was also an undergraduate research assistant in Dr. Kurt Marsden’s lab, where she conducted research for 2.5 years. Besides her academic responsibilities, Tiara was an RA for Watauga Residence Hall and held executive board positions for her sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and the National Pan-Hellenic Council, where she served as financial secretary, vice president, recruitment chair, and community service chair. After graduating, Tiara will pursue a graduate degree in clinical psychology in hopes of achieving her goal of becoming a clinical neuropsychologist.

During his time in NC State, Rj was one of the founding members of the Asian-interest fraternity, Lambda Phi Epsilon at NC State. He helped to found the organization in pursuit of giving others the opportunity to have a sense of belonging, leadership and to give back to the community. He was also part of the Asian Student Association and the Vietnamese Student Association to spread awareness to Asian culture and Asian American identity.

Most recently, Jaeleen studied in Milan, Italy for a semester and became an NC State Sustainability Steward. After graduation, Jaeleen will continue working with a professor on campus on a research documentary and hopes to find a job internationally or join the Peace Corps.

After graduation, Jonina hopes to go to medical school following a gap year.

During her time at NC State, Dejanique was adamant about being involved in multiple ways, such as the Phi Alpha Honor Society, Black Graduate Student Association, studying abroad, panels that address studying abroad as a graduate student and being an HRSA OWEP Scholar. Outside of NC State, she volunteers for a crisis intervention and suicide prevention hotline as well as other efforts, such as Oak City Cares. After graduation, Dejanique plans to pursue a career in clinical direct practice and obtain Licensed Clinical Social Worker status.

While attending NC State in 2019, Elizabeth wrote a successful research grant proposal and earned the John W. Pope MIS Capstone Grant as a result. In Fall 2019, Elizabeth completed an internship in Honduras at The Leadership Center (TLC) where she taught college level Central American History and Mathematics classes to second-year women while researching food insecurity in Honduras for her Capstone Project. At TLC, she also installed a water tank with her 2nd year students for the Los Mescales Community. To help build the water tank, she hauled rocks and sand bags up a mountain pass. The water tank will supply the community with more water for their home gardens, crops and livestock. After graduation, she plans to work for a human rights or social justice international organization.

Activities: Baccalaureate Student Social Work Association (BSSWA), National Association of Social Workers, Student Senate Member, Wake Technical Community College Student Government Association, National Society of Leadership and Success, group research on Effects of Caregiver Stress: A Program Evaluation of Charles House in Chapel Hill, with the purpose to ascertain its effect on caregivers stress, specifically on spousal caregivers.

During her time at NC State, Ifeoma met with her constituency representative, Everette Terence, to advocate for Medicaid Expansion, especially for the undeserved rural populace, in the Empowerment of Women for Treatment Program. This project helps emancipate women in a Nigerian social group in the United States called Umuada Igbo Organization USA, Inc. The project trains some of the members of the group with the clinical skill to help encourage vulnerable members with mental health symptoms to get treatment. Dr. Phyo Phyo Kyaw Zin is graduating with a Ph.D. in Cheminformatics under the guidance of Dr. Denis Fourches. Prior to attending NC State, she obtained a B.A. in Chemistry and Computer Science at Berea College on a full scholarship. During her time at NC State, she published five research articles, has one manuscript under review and three to be submitted. Her research focuses on developing novel cheminformatics approaches to aid in the advancement of drug discovery. She developed PKS Enumerator and SIME, which are critical tools in designing and generating in-silico libraries of novel macrolide structures, highly complex nature-derived products with high therapeutic potential. She also developed MacrolactoneDB, a centralized repository of macrolactones, and implemented a novel MD-QSAR method to estimate highly accurate potencies of chemicals even before they are synthesized. Additionally, she and her colleagues invented a novel cheminformatics-based encryption technique. After graduation, Dr. Zin will be joining Simulations Plus Inc. as a cheminformatics postdoc.
