The Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity has issued a call for programs for NC State’s Annual Diversity Education Week, to be held October 22-28, 2017. Registered student organizations, university offices, departments and colleges are invited to host programs and events.

GLBT Center’s Advocate Program Launches Lunch and Learn Series

The GLBT Center will introduce a Lunch & Learn Series as a part of its GLBT Advocate Program. The GLBT Advocate Program: Lunch & Learn Series will meet monthly and work to advance the content knowledge and skills acquisition of faculty and staff around topics related to intersectional social justice.

NC State Named 2017 HEED Award Recipient

NC State has been selected as a recipient of the 2017 INSIGHT Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award. The HEED Award is the only national recognition honoring colleges and universities that show an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion across their campuses.

Women’s Equality: A Work in Progress

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences hosted its second annual Women’s Equality Day Luncheon in the Coastal Ballroom of Talley Student Union on Monday, August 28, 2017. Since 1971, August 26th has been designated as Women’s Equality Day in the U.S. The day commemorates the certification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that granted women the right to vote in 1920.

“Hidden Figure” Dr. Christine Darden Visits

The College of Engineering welcomed Christine Darden on Thursday, August 17, 2017 for a seminar at Hunt Library. One of the African American women NASA hired as a “human computer” to compute numbers for the engineers, Darden holds a B.S. in mathematics from Hampton University, a master’s degree in applied mathematics from Virginia State College and a doctorate in mechanical engineering from George Washington University.

The newest Diverse: Issues in Higher Education rankings, as reported on August 24, 2017, tabulate the top 100 institutions awarding bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees to African-American, Asian-American, Native American and Hispanic students across all disciplines.

GLBT Center Launches Social Justice Cohort

The GLBT Center has launched a new program to provide space for intersectional social justice education. The Social Justice Cohort will run for one semester and bring together a group of dedicated individuals interested in exploring concepts of race, gender, sexuality, ability, age, religion, social justice, privilege, power and oppression as they overlap and intersect within society.
