Women’s Center Welcomes New Associate Director for IPV

Janine Kossen joins NC State as associate director of the Women's Center, focusing on interpersonal violence (IPV) services. In her role, Kossen will oversee and supervise IPV prevention efforts, programming and outreach, student leadership development, partnership and collaboration and direct advocacy services for students.

The Women's Center and the African American Cultural Center have partnered to bring "The Politics of Black Hair" to NC State. The exhibit will run through March 21, 2018 in the African American Cultural Center Gallery on the second floor of Witherspoon Student Center.

Sisterhood Dinner to Add Day of Activities to Evening Festivities

Held every year to celebrate the accomplishments of NC State women, the Sisterhood Dinner provides a night of fine dining, education and entertainment for hundreds of attendees. Enjoyed by NC State women and plenty of other guests, the night is highly anticipated each spring.

From Theory to Praxis: Intersectional Feminist Theory

This academic year has seen the creation of a program that seeks to take academic conversations out of the classroom and ground the work of the campus community in a theoretical framework. “From Theory to Praxis” is designed to turn discourse into observable action, cultivate community and provide an opportunity to engage with challenging academic thought and literature.

Angela Gay Steps into New Role in Women’s Center

Angela Gay has joined the Women's Center, one of four campus community centers within the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity, as assistant director. Formerly a graduate assistant in the Women’s Center, Angela worked to develop annual signature programs such as the Gender and Equity Research Symposium, the Women of Color Retreat and the Politics of Black Hair Exhibit.

Campus Community Centers to Host Social Justice January

The OIED Campus Community Centers will host the fourth annual Social Justice January later this month. This collaborative annual event co-hosted by the GLBT Center, Women’s Center, Multicultural Student Affairs and African American Cultural Center aims to engage the campus community in critical conversations about contemporary social justice issues that impact multiple communities.

January is Stalking Awareness Month. Stalking involves any kind of repeated unwanted contact that causes a reasonable person fear. While stalking is one of the least publicly discussed forms of interpersonal violence, it disproportionately affects college students.

K Stone Joins the Women’s Center as Program Assistant

Katherine (“K”) Stone joined the Women’s Center as its new program assistant in December 2017. Stone has seven years of experience working in higher education and six years of experience managing programs. Most recently, she spent three and a half years working at the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) in Washington, D.C., as a program manager for the Best Practices and Research Divisions.
