Campus Community Centers to Host Social Justice January

The OIED Campus Community Centers will host the fourth annual Social Justice January later this month. This collaborative annual event co-hosted by the GLBT Center, Women’s Center, Multicultural Student Affairs and African American Cultural Center aims to engage the campus community in critical conversations about contemporary social justice issues that impact multiple communities.

Join the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity and the Division of Academic and Student Affairs for NC State's 2018 Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration on January 16-17. 2018. The theme of this year's celebration is "The Power of Voice." Headliner Benjamin Jealous, civil and human rights leader, former NAACP president, venture capitalist and author, will present: "The Forgotten Origins of Consequences of Race in America," January 16, 2018 from 3:00-5:00 p.m., Stewart Theatre.

K Stone Joins the Women’s Center as Program Assistant

Katherine (“K”) Stone joined the Women’s Center as its new program assistant in December 2017. Stone has seven years of experience working in higher education and six years of experience managing programs. Most recently, she spent three and a half years working at the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) in Washington, D.C., as a program manager for the Best Practices and Research Divisions.

GLBT Advocate Program’s Lunch & Learn Series Gears Up for Spring Semester

Fall 2017 saw the launch of the GLBT Advocate Program's Lunch & Learn Series. Hosted monthly, this series of workshops provided faculty and staff with opportunities to engage in conversation and further develop their skills around implementing intersectional social justice strategies in the classroom. This semester’s Lunch & Learn topics will explore ways to utilize privilege to dismantle oppressive systems and advocate for marginalized communities, strategies to foreground intersectionality into work with students and how to engage in service opportunities without evoking the “White savior complex.”

OIED Announces Diversity Mini-Grant Program Recipients for 2017-18

The Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2017-2018 Diversity Mini-Grant Program. Now in its fifteenth year, the initiative emphasizes the importance of university-wide efforts and endorsement of NC State as a place to learn, work and grow. Projects this year include initiatives focusing on pre-college outreach, undergraduate recruitment, graduate recruitment, student retention in STEM, inclusive practices in academia and campus climate.
