SAAM Keynote Speaker Pierre Berastain Triumphs Over Hardships
For Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), the Women’s Center brought Pierre Berastain to campus for a workshop, “Unpacking Culture in the Context of Sexual Assault, Intimate Partner Violence and Stalking,” and keynote address, “The Demons in My Sleep: Sexual Assault, the DREAM Act and Uncertainty,” both held on April 17, 2018 in Talley Student Union. Berastain’s life reads like a classic American success story except for circumstances that make it more of an epic journey with some nearly crushing setbacks along the way.
Clothesline Project Helps Heal Survivors of Interpersonal Violence through Art
During Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the emotionally moving Clothesline Project raises awareness about sexual violence. Each of NC State's Campus Community Centers has dedicated space for the project, which features the work of survivors of interpersonal violence who share their experience through art.
APIDA Heritage Month Continues to Grow and Expand
Along with the spring breeze came the flavors of Asian street food from the Asian Night Market in Talley Student Union's Mountains Ballroom, bringing attention to Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Heritage Month at NC State from March 15 - April 15, 2018. For the third year, NC State celebrated this Heritage Month with efforts from Asian student organizations and support from campus offices, extending the observance from one week to a full month. Additionally, events to celebrate the Desi American population added a new dimension this year.
