Recognizing Your Magic: Equity Award Nominations, Sisterhood Celebration

Sisterhood Celebration

As we look to 2022, the Sisterhood Celebration Committee announces this year’s virtual event. In her book Eloquent Rage: A Black Feminist Discovers Her Superpower, Brittney Cooper offers:

I have always lingered over stories of women who lead, women who know what they want out of this world, and women who demand that others respect them and recognize their magic.

In a time when we must continue to reimagine the concept of normalcy, we must also pause to reflect on the historical underpinnings that led us to this place and honor those who have and are forging paths for a more equitable future. In celebration of these individuals, the theme for this year’s 37th annual Sisterhood Celebration will be “Recognizing Your Magic.” As we continue to celebrate in a virtual format, we look forward to providing a space to allow the stories of the magical women of NC State University to prevail.

This year’s virtual event will take place on Monday, February 28, 2022.

Equity for Women Awards

NC State’s Council on the Status of Women invites you to nominate NC State faculty, staff and students for the Equity for Women Awards.

These awards annually recognize faculty, staff and students for their outstanding dedication to establishing equity for women at NC State University. Nominations are welcome from all members of the campus community. This year, we will be giving up to four awards.

Not sure whom to recommend? Think of faculty, staff, students or a group of any gender identity committed to advocacy for gender equity at NC State. Nominees should demonstrate excellence in one or more of the following areas over the past 12 months:

  • Leadership: Taking action to promote gender equity on and beyond campus through leadership roles;
  • Service: Supporting equity for women through job-related or voluntary roles;
  • Scholarship: Contributing new knowledge and/or informing policy and practice related to women’s well-being and equality.

New for the 2022 Equity Awards: For the upcoming award cycle, we have added a “Group” category for nominations to recognize the work that occurs in a group or team setting. A group, for the purpose of an Equity Award nomination, is considered as more than one person from the campus community working collaboratively on a shared project/team around gender equity issues. Examples can include but are not limited to a group project, a student organization, a task force or team within a larger unit/department/college, etc.

Criteria for rating these areas will be based on commitment to leadership, service and/or scholarship as well as the impact of the nominee’s efforts. Successful nominations will address the following questions in 4,250 characters or less each:

  • Describe the nominee’s activities over the past 12 months with regard to leadership, service and/or scholarship. Make sure to touch on all applicable categories in your response.
  • Describe the impact or potential impact of your nominee’s activities to advance women’s equity in the NC State community.

Nominations will close on Tuesday, Feb 1, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. Award recipients will be announced at the 2022 Sisterhood Celebration on February 28, 2022.
