Native American Heritage Month: The Queerness of Native American Literature

As a part of Native American Heritage Month, the GLBT Center will host Lisa Tatonetti, professor of English at Kansas State University, to explore queer representation and identity within Native American literature on November 9, 2017 in Park Shops, Room 210. Within her research, Tatonetti identifies themes of gender and sexuality that are found throughout many early Native American literary works. Highlighting gender, sexuality and gender expression within varying tribal cultures, the works illustrate how these identities were constructed prior to the influence of settler colonialism.
