How Far Have We Come? Taking Stock of the 19th Amendment and 100 Years of Women’s Right to Vote

What did the 19th Amendment accomplish? Where did it fall short? Where are the front lines of the fight for universal suffrage today? What strategies are likely to be most effective? We’ll try to answer these questions during a conversation with Anita Earls and Allison Riggs — two of the country’s most important voices in the fight for voting rights today.
Earls serves as an associate justice on the North Carolina Supreme Court. She litigated voting rights cases for more than 30 years in state and federal courts. In 2007, she founded the Southern Coalition for Social Justice.
Riggs leads the voting rights program at the Southern Coalition for Social Justice. In March, she was named that organization’s interim executive director.
