Special Day of Giving to Support Diversity and Inclusion

Day of Giving 2020

Last spring, NC State held its first ever Day of Giving, an online fundraising event that combined fun and friendly competition with the important work of raising funds to propel NC State forward. The event succeeded beyond all predictions, raising over $13M for the university.

Preparation for the second annual Day of Giving was well underway in March 2020 just as the pandemic hit in full force. Day of Giving was postponed.

As we witnessed the effects of the pandemic, combined with momentous events stemming from the recognition and protest of ongoing racial injustice, university leaders decided to move forward with a refocused Day of Giving, which will be held on Sep. 16, 2020.

Stronger as a Pack

The theme of next month’s event is “Stronger as a Pack,” aimed toward making sure everyone can adapt in difficult circumstances while meeting urgent and ongoing needs, expanding opportunity and providing meaningful space for all.

One of four focus areas for donations on the day, the Diversity and Equity Fund provides support for programs and initiatives of the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity, which includes the Campus Community Centers, Bias Impact Response Team, Equal Opportunity and Equity and Inclusive Excellence and Strategic Practice.

The Power of an Endowment

Funding is critically important for most endeavors, and diversity, equity and inclusion programs are no exception. To create programs with lasting impact, consistent resources are critical.

The university took a major step toward the goal of creating an endowment that can provide continuous income for diversity programs through the generous gift of alum Tim Humphrey, ‘96. His gifts to both the College of Engineering and the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity provide unprecedented opportunities for working toward equity and inclusion at NC State; the Timothy L. Humphrey Inclusion, Equity and Diversity Award, which supports OIED’s campus community centers, is the first gift of its kind and will ensure lasting impact in the years to come.

How to Give

Donors can visit the Day of Giving website to make a pledge and follow the day’s progress for this one-time fall event, which will raise funds for scholarships, diversity and inclusion efforts and enhancement funds.
