The theme of this year\u2019s GLBT History Month, \u201cStrategic Activism: Fighting on All Fronts,\u201d focuses on the various modes of activism, resistance, advocacy and solidarity within intersectional social justice.<\/p>\n
Recognizing that social change occurs through a multi-pronged approach, the theme highlights the various tactics that people can use to embody resistance. From education to organizing to direct action, art and policy reform, “strategic activism” strives to honor the ways in which people challenge systems and fight injustice daily.<\/p>\n
Events throughout the month will examine various forms of utilizing your voice to advocate for social change, such as:<\/p>\n
In honor of National Coming Out Day<\/strong> on October 11, 2018, the GLBT Community Alliance (GLBTCA) student organization will paint the Free Expression Tunnel<\/strong> on Sunday, October 7, 2018 and host Navigating the Coming Out Process<\/strong> on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in Talley Student Union, Room 3210.<\/p>\n Additional GLBT History Month events include the Trans 101 workshop<\/strong> on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in Talley Student Union, Room 4280, Supporting Queer Undocumented Students workshop<\/strong> on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in Talley Student Union, Room 4280, and Out in the Night<\/em>: Film Screening and Discussion<\/strong> on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in Witherspoon Student Center, Room 126.<\/p>\n The GLBT Center will also collaborate with the African American Cultural Center for the exhibit Artivism: Advocacy and Activism Through Art<\/strong>. The exhibit will feature work from local artists Gemynii and Jade Wilson and will showcase resistance, justice, activism and radical self-love through the medium of art.
