OIED’s Annual Report Tells How We Served You

2021 graduates celebrate in Multicultural Student Affairs

“Over a year after NC State transitioned to virtual learning and working, we stand at a unique place in history. We’ve endured through a global pandemic that called upon us all to exercise flexibility and creativity to continue operating and called upon us to do so with empathy, understanding, resilience and compassion.”

So begins Vice Provost Sheri Schwab’s introductory letter to this year’s annual report from the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity. The report tells the story of how we served our campus community during the 2020-21 academic year.

We’ve endured through a global pandemic that called upon us all to exercise flexibility and creativity to continue operating and called upon us to do so with empathy, understanding, resilience and compassion.

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, OIED offered many enriching programs and experiences for students, faculty, staff and community. We also continued to provide critical campus support services, including harassment, discrimination and Title IX reporting and response; ADA, religious and pregnancy accommodations; bias impact response; and interpersonal and sexual violence response. As expected, these needs did not go away and some increased during this time.

We also kept our communities connected with numerous virtual speakers, workshops, symposia and celebrations, such as our annual Martin Luther King Jr. commemoration, Gender and Equity Research Symposium, GLBT Advocate Programs and heritage month celebrations.

You can read about the many programs we offered in our campus community centers — the African American Cultural Center, GLBT Center, Multicultural Student Affairs and the Women’s Center — along with the initiatives of our Equal Opportunity and Equity, Impact Response and Inclusive Excellence and Strategic Practice units.

Find a program you’d like to learn more about and join one of our communities in the coming year. We are here for you.
