Our Statement on Recent Events

Dear members of the MSA familia y NC State community,

To say we are outraged, sad, and frustrated by the ongoing oppression of Black people in the US and world, is a severe understatement. Racism is insidious, and an unfortunate reality of our society. Over the past few weeks, Armaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Nina Pop, George Floyd, Tony McDade, and countless other Black folx whose names we do not know, have all lost their lives because of the racism and anti-Blackness in this country. To prevent the continued loss of more Black people, we must take active steps to combat racism, white supremacy, and anti-Blackness on our campus and in our daily lives.

As the office of Multicultural Student Affairs, we are committed to continuing to serve the NC State community in building an inclusive campus and in collaborating with other partners to create a future steeped in justice. In order to practice true inclusion, we must be actively anti-racist and dismantle systems of oppression.

We will be creating spaces over the next few weeks for discussion and connection around the instances of police brutality being addressed globally. We will be sharing information about those dates and times next week. Additionally, we will share resources about being anti-racist and unlearning anti-Blackness on our social media platforms. We encourage you to actively engage in the materials provided and advocate for lasting change in our community. We stand behind our students’ roles in this movement; whether that be through peaceful protest, information sharing, art activism, or actions that promote community and self-care.

MSA is in this fight for a better NC State and world with you all because #BlackLivesMatter.

In solidarity,

Nashia, Leah, Marcela, & Chris
