Multicultural Graduate Student Orientation (MGSO) is an orientation on August 24th, 2019 focused on community and strategy building for incoming graduate students on NC State’s campus. This orientation strives to honor and support students’ intersectional identities while immersing students in the resources NC State has to offer.
During this orientation students will be provided with information through skill building workshops, interactive panels, and networking with peers, faculty and staff, the MGSO prepares students to successfully navigate graduate school in their first year. All incoming graduate students are invited to register, particularly students from communities that have been placed in the margin or historically underrepresented.
Throughout the day, attendees will be in concurrent sessions with guest facilitators on topics ranging from respectability politics, major keys to success all the way to finding your people. In addition, there will be chances for students to learn about additional financial resources available to them and orientation will conclude with an organization and resource fair.
Additionally, this orientation is not discipline specific. It was created for all students across disciplines, programs, and colleges at NC State with an intention on breaking the siloed culture of graduate school.
